Supervisor Awareness In-Person Training
This health and safety awareness program is designed to equip supervisors with the knowledge and skills needed to fulfill their role in the internal responsibility system and ensure a safe workplace. Supervisors play a critical role in ensuring that workplace hazards are recognized, assessed, and controlled to protect workers’ health and safety.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Understand Roles and Responsibilities: Recognize the health and safety roles of the employer, supervisor, and worker in the internal responsibility system, and why supervisors are key to workplace safety.
- Support Workers’ Rights: Identify the three core rights of workers (know, participate, refuse unsafe work) and understand supervisors’ duty to protect these rights.
- Utilize the Supervisor’s Toolkit: Incorporate hazard recognition, assessment, control, and evaluation into work planning, and ensure effective communication of hazards and safe practices to workers.
- Leverage Resources and Support: Know where to access health and safety information (e.g., JHSC, WSIB, MLTSD) and seek additional training to improve safety practices.
- Lead by Example: Understand the importance of setting a positive safety example and how it influences workplace safety culture.
This four-hour instructor-led course allows workers to participate in a dynamic, interactive experience focused on adult learning principles. After finishing the course, participants will take an assessment quiz, and a passing score of 80% will earn them a certificate of completion.
