
Manual Material Handling
Manual material handling happens in nearly every workplace—but improper techniques are a leading cause of injury. Despite being common, the risks are often misunderstood or overlooked.
This course equips participants with the knowledge to assess tasks that involve lifting, carrying, bending, reaching, or twisting. It explores key factors contributing to musculoskeletal injuries—especially to the back, shoulders, neck, wrists, and arms—and offers practical strategies for adjusting workstations or workflows to reduce strain and improve safety.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify common injuries associated with manual material handling
- Assess tasks for hazards related to lifting, carrying, and repetitive motion
- Describe the basic anatomy of the spine and how it relates to injury risk
- Recognize types of back injuries and contributing factors
